What is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)?
A certified SLP generally has a master’s degree in Communication Disorders, has completed a minimum of 2 externships (hospital and school), and has met the continuing education requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. A master’s degree in Communication Disorders covers a wide range of knowledge and skills, including, but not limited to: early and school age language development and intervention, fluency disorders (stuttering and cluttering), articulation disorders, autism, reading and writing, neurological disorders, hearing impairment, voice disorders, feeding and swallowing.
How can a private practice SLP help me or my child?
With a custom-designed intervention plan administered in one-on-one sessions, an SLP can provide individualized, responsive therapy and homework assignments to speed improvement in the clarity, content and effectiveness of your or your child’s communication.
How do we start?
A speech and language screening (covering articulation, language, voice and fluency) takes only 15-20 minutes, and can identify if there is an area of concern requiring further evaluation. If you or your child has a previously identified area of concern, please contact me to schedule an initial consultation or evaluation.
